Houston vs. Providence Pick
Who will come out on top when Houston and Providence meet up at 6:30PM ET in the Basketball Hall of Fame Holiday Classic?
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Houston is favored in this game, as the Cougars are getting odds of -4 points against Providence. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 146 points. Today’s game takes place from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut and will air live on ESPNU.
Houston is coming off a 92-72 win over Prairie View to improve to 9-2 on the season. The Cougars are 4-3 against the spread this season, covering in four of their last five lined games. Houston is putting up 82.2 points per game on offense while allowing 67.4 per game on defense. Rob Gray is leading Houston with 20.4 points per game while Devin Davis is adding 12.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per contest.
Providence is coming off a 62-60 win over Stoney Creek, but the Friars are just 2-2 in their last four. Providence is now 8-3 overall and only 2-7 against the spread. The Friars are averaging 75.9 points per game on offense while allowing 69.8 per game on defense. Providence currently has four listed on the injury report with Kyron Cartwright questionable tonight with an ankle injury and Alpha Diallo doubtful due to an ankle injury. They combined for nearly over 20 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists per game. Rodney Bullock is leading the team with 14.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per contest.
These two have no recent meetings to consider tonight. Providence is really beat up and that should play a factor today. The Friars just don’t have the legs right now to compete with a team that is able to win and bring in fresh bodies that can contribute. If these two were to meet healthy, I would give Providence a good chance. The public betting is siding with Providence, but I like Houston to cover.
