Illinois looking to get on track
It’s been a rough start to the season for Illinois as they have lost their first two in the Big Ten and are coming off back-to-back losses to Missouri and FAU. Illinois is 4-9 on the season, 0-2 in the Big Ten, 0-2 on the road, 4-9 against the spread and 6-6-1 with the over/under.
The Illini haven’t had much go right for them this year. The offense is putting up 74.6 points per game and shoots just 42.6 percent from the field. Defensively, the Illini are giving up 75 points per game while allowing opponents to shoot 46.3 percent against them. Trent Frazier is leading Illinois with 15.9 points and 3.0 assists per game while Ayo Dosunmu is adding 11.9 points and 4.6 rebounds per contest.
Hoosiers rolling
Indiana has won six straight coming into this game, including their first two Big Ten games back in early December. The Hoosiers have also covered in their last three games. Indiana is 11-2 on the season, 2-0 in the Big Ten, 9-0 at home, 6-6 against the spread and 9-3 with the under.
Indiana has been strong on both sides of the ball thus far. The offense puts up 78.9 points per game while shooting 52.9 percent from the field, which ranks second nationally. Defensively, Indiana is giving up only 64 points per game while holding opponents to 40 percent shooting overall and 29.7 percent shooting from the arc. Romeo Langford is leading the Hoosiers with 17.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game while Juwan Morgan is adding 16.2 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.
College Basketball Betting Trends
Illinois
Illinois is 3-7 against the spread in their last 10 games against Big Ten opponents and 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games.
Indiana
Indiana is 15-5 against the spread in its last 20 home games and 13-5 ATS in its last 18 Big Ten games.
Prediction:
Indiana has covered the spread in six straight meetings with Illinois and the Hoosiers look to be the far better team tonight. Indiana has the better balance of offense and defense and Illinois still is searching for its identity. Illinois has lost both Big Ten games this season by double digits, including a 15-point loss at Nebraska. I just don’t see Illinois being able to compete in a hostile environment tonight.
College Basketball Prediction: Indiana -12.5
