Illinois suspends Darius Paul
CHAMPAIGN, IL (TheSpread) – The Illinois men’s basketball team had to make a tough decision this week, suspending forward Darius Paul next season.
The school announced the decision on Wednesday, citing “multiple transgressions” as the reason. Paul recently pleaded guilty to resisting a peace offer and consumption of liquor by a minor following an arrest on campus.
Paul, 20, is the brother of alumni Brandon Paul, who played for the Illini as well. Paul sat out last season after transferring from Western Michigan, where he averaged 10.4 points and 5.7 rebounds as a freshman with the Broncos. Paul was expected to contribute for Illinois in his first season of action.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Illinois has 150/1 odds to win the NCAA Tournament in 2015. Oddsmakers see Kentucky as the favorite to win it all next season, with 5/1 odds. Duke is the next favorite at 10/1.
