Illinois Fighting Illini Game Notes
Da’Monte Williams had four points (1-2 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT), six rebounds and five assists across 35 minutes during Monday’s 82-72 victory over Notre Dame. Williams is often overlooked as the fifth-year senior and glue guy, but his contributions Monday were especially impressive given the circumstances. According to Christian Jones of the Daily Illini, Williams was one of the many Illinois players dealing with flu-like symptoms and was even spotted throwing up at halftime. While several other players were forced to sit out, Williams gutted it out, playing the second-most minutes on the team and helping Illinois improve to 5-2 on the season.
Iowa Hawkeyes Game Notes
Patrick McCaffery recorded 15 points (4-13 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 7-10 FT), five rebounds and three assists across 28 minutes during Friday’s 77-70 loss to Purdue. McCaffery was held to just seven points in Monday’s win over Virginia, but he bounced back Friday and matched his highest scoring total of the season. He’s averaging 12.0 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 23.3 minutes per game while shooting 42.9 percent from the floor this year.
