Iowa State adds Greek center
AMES, IA (TheSpread) – The Iowa State men’s basketball team got a lot bigger this week, adding Georgios Tsalmpouris to the squad for next season.
ESPN.com’s Myron Medcalf reported on Monday night that the Cyclones added the 7-foot-1 center from the Greek national team. He will compete in the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup and then be eligible to join the Cyclones immediately and play next season.
Iowa State had a lot of success last season despite a lack of a true center in the paint. Tsalmpouris gives Iowa State a shot blocker to work with and help build off its 28-8 record last season.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Iowa State has 33/1 odds to win the NCAA Tournament in 2015. Oddsmakers see Kentucky as the favorite to win it all next season, with 5/1 odds. Duke is the next favorite at 10/1.
