Iowa State vs. West Virginia Prediction
No. 17 will visit No. 14 in a Big 12 battle on ESPN tonight at 8:00PM ET when West Virginia hosts Iowa State.
Oddsmakers from online sports book RealBet.eu currently lists the Mountaineers as 6-point home favorites versus the Cyclones while the over/under currently sits at 157 points. West Virginia had opened as a 5-point favorite before the line climbed, while the total has also moved too after opening at 158. (You can compare spreads and totals at our college basketball odds page.)
Iowa State has played .500 ball against the spread of late, covering in five its last 10 games and going 6-4 straight up during that stretch. West Virginia, meanwhile, is 20-7 overall, 14-10 against the number and 7-3 ATS at home this season. They too are .500 both straight up and ATS over their last 10 games.
Prediction
The Power Rating Line for tonight’s game is currently WVU -8, making the Mountaineers a value play for bettors. And when you dive into the numbers, you understand why the Mountaineers should probably be a heavier favorite than what they are tonight.
For example, WVU is 7-3 against the spread as a home team this season, winning by a massive 23.4 average in those 10 lined games. Iowa State, meanwhile, is 2-2 against the spread as an underdog this season and has lost by an average margin of -5.2 during those four games.
This is also a distracted ISU bunch, with Jameel McKay being disciplined recently for an unknown reason. The senior center served a two-game suspension earlier this month and then was benched on Saturday in the team’s win over TCU.
McKay is expected to be available tonight but with the Mountaineers needing a big win after losing three of their last four games, it might not matter. WVU is 13-4 against the spread in its last 17 home games while the Cyclones are 1-4 ATS in their last five games versus a team with a winning record.
