14 points too much to lay on No. 1 OU?

If bettors want to take No. 1 Oklahoma to cover vs. Texas Tech on Tuesday night they’ll have to lay a ton of points.

Even though they fell to Iowa State 82-77 as a 2.5-point underdog last week, the Sooners remain red-hot. They lead the nation with a 46.4 3-point percentage and rank in the top 10 with 85.5 points per game. They’ve also won 16 straight home games by an average of 17.4 points.

Oklahoma would need to hold to that average if backers are going to cash on the Sooners tonight. That’s because according to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, OU is a 14-point favorite versus Texas Tech at 7:00PM ET on ESPN2.

The Red Raiders have lost five of their last six games against the Sooners and have also lost 11 straight games versus ranked opponents. That said, eight of those last 11 games have been by 10 points or fewer.

Oklahoma has struggled at the betting window versus Big 12 opponents, failing to cover in 12 of its last 15 conference games. The Sooners are also winless at 0-5 ATS in their last five home games.

Even though these two teams are headed in opposite directions in the standings, perhaps 14 points is too steep a price.
