MSU in trouble?

No. 11 Michigan State is in a bit of tailspin, losing its third straight on Wednesday. Can the Spartans regroup and be a contender in March?

The Spartans (16-4) suffered a surprising 72-71 loss to Nebraska at home on Wednesday night, marking a third straight loss overall and second straight loss at home. MSU is now 3-4 in the Big Ten and already seemingly out of the title race.

According to oddsmakers at RealBets, Michigan State is still among the top contenders to win the NCAA Tournament, as the Spartans have 9/1 odds to win. Kansas and North Carolina are the two co-favorites with 7/1 odds.

Despite Michigan State’s struggles, they tend to turn it on in March under Tom Izzo. Just last season MSU went 23-11 during the season but managed to make a run to the Final Four, the seventh in Izzo’s career. The team has had some injury issues this season with Denzel Valentine missing a few weeks earlier in the year and now Lourawls Nairn Jr. is out indefinitely with a foot injury. Nairn should be back for the end of the season, so look for the Spartans to be ready for another tournament run.
