LAS VEGAS, NV (TheSpread) – Things were going rather smooth for the Kentucky Wildcats this season, but the team suffered a setback on Thursday when Alex Poythress tore his ACL.

Poythress, a 6-8 junior forward, was part of Kentucky’s two-platoon system in which the Wildcats were able to swap in two separate groups of five. He was averaging 5.5 points and 3.8 rebounds in roughly 20 minutes of action per game.

His injury came during practice on Thursday in which he tore the ACL in his left knee without any contact on the play. A date for surgery has yet to be set and he will likely need six to eight months to recover.

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Kentucky still is the clear favorite to win it all this season, as the Wildcats have 7/5 odds to win the national championship in 2015. The next closest-odds are Duke, which has 15/2 odds.
