When it comes to the public betting for today’s regional final, the bettors are split right down the middle. As of this writing, the public wagers are both 50 percent for each team with the Tar Heels giving the 2.5 to the Wildcats.
The first meeting probably doesn’t provide a lot of help, as both teams are much different now. Kentucky has certainly gained a lot of experience with its young roster since then. Despite a slight lull in performance midway through the season, Kentucky has won 14 straight games. The Wildcats may have had their best showing of the season on Friday when they defeated UCLA 86-75. The Wildcats really amped up the defensive pressure on the Bruins and looked like they had a chip on their shoulder. Perhaps being a 1.5-point underdog to UCLA motivated them and could motivate Kentucky today as well.
North Carolina is coming off a 92-80 win over Butler and the Heels have been one of the top favorites to win the NCAA Tournament all season. However, UNC has struggled lately against top-level opponents. They suffered a 93-83 loss to Duke in the ACC Tournament and had an awful showing in a 53-43 loss to Virginia. Still, UNC has a lot of talent and that talent seems to be on level with Kentucky. The key will be if the Tar Heels can bring their best to the floor, which hasn’t always been the case in the last month.
