Golden Eagles lose third straight
Marquette suffered an 88-86 loss Saturday at St. John’s to drop to 18-12 overall and 8-10 in Big East play. The Golden Eagles outscored the Red Storm 58-41 in the second half but it was not enough after going into halftime trailing by 19. Markus Howard led Marquette with 30 points on 8-of-16 shooting including 6-of-10 from 3-point distance plus 8-of-9 at the free throw line. He also notched four rebounds and four assists. Sacar Anim added 24 points, eight boards and four steals.
Pirates unable to clinch outright title
Seton Hall fell into a three-way tie for the Big East Conference regular season title Saturday with a 77-60 loss at Creighton. The Pirates (21-9, 13-5) were outscored 45-28 in the second half of the defeat. Quincy McKnight helped pace Seton Hall with 15 points on 6-of-14 shooting including 3-of-7 from 3-point distance. He also accounted for four rebounds and two assists. Myles Powell tallied 15 points, five assists and two boards. Jared Rhoden added 12 points and five caroms off the bench.

Seton Hall has stumbled as of late and the Golden Eagles have one of the nation’s best scorers in Howard. While Marquette has struggled lately as well, it has the makeup of a team that can beat anyone on any given night. The Golden Eagles know they need a win if they want an NCAA Tournament bid. I’m taking a shot on the dogs rising to the occasion.
