Maryland vs. Iowa Prediction

The Iowa Hawkeyes are a small home favorite tonight against Maryland in Big Ten play. Will they cover?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Hawkeyes are 2-point home favorites versus the Terps while the over/under currently sits at 150 points. Iowa opened as a 1.5-point home dog before the line jumped the fence, while the total hit the board at 150 and that’s where it currently sits.

Maryland enters play tonight with a 16-2 record. The Terps are coming off a 62-56 win over Illinois on Saturday following a cold start. They shot just 3-for-13 in the first half from beyond the arc, but responded to shoot 43 percent from the field and 27 percent from 3-point range. Anthony Cowan led the team with 19 points while Melo Trimble and Jaylen Brantley each added 12 points.

Iowa, meanwhile, is coming off an embarrassing 89-54 loss to Northwestern. Scottie Lindsey scored 22 points, while Bryant McIntosh had another 20 as the Wildcats rolled. The loss dropped Iowa to 11-8 on the season, but the Hawkeyes have won seven of their last 10 and are 5-4 against the spread over that same span.

OUR PREDICTION: This feels like a trap but I’m not going to overthink it – Maryland is the better team and is getting points. The Terps are 4-1 against the spread in their last five raod games, are 4-1 against the number in their last five games as a road underdog and are a perfect 5-0 against the number in their last five games as an underdog overall. The Hawkeyes, meanwhile, are 2-11-1 at the betting window in their last 14 games as a favorite.
