On Monday Missouri hired Kim Anderson to be the program’s new head basketball coach. He was a former star player and longtime assistant to former Missouri coach Norm Stewart, so he has familiarity with the program. That said, he was passed over three times by Athletic Director Mike Alden and wound up coaching at Division II Central Missouri, where he won a championship last year.
“He’s a man of great character, integrity and respect,” Alden said. “The fact that he’s a Missouri Tiger at heart is important.”
Anderson replaces Frank Haith, who left for Tulsa earlier this month. Haith relied mostly on recruiting JUCCO transfers and over the past two years, the Tigers have struggled on-court with chemistry. Off the court they also struggled with arrests, which led to Haith’s seat getting hotter by the day. Essentially, Haith choose to get out of Columbia before he was forced out.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, Missouri is currently a 100/1 long shot to win the 2015 college basketball championship. For comparison’s sake, Kentucky is a 5/1 favorite to win the title while Duke is 9/1 and Wisconsin is 12/1. Kansas is also 14/1 while Arizona, Florida and North Carolina are all 16/1, respectively.
