Kentucky one of favorites for 2019 national championship
Kentucky is almost always among the favorites to win a national championship in college basketball and this upcoming season is no different. The Wildcats are gaining steam as they opened at 10/1 odds for a national title, but are currently at 7/1. Does Kentucky have what it takes to win yet another national title in the program’s illustrious history?
The Wildcats have the second-best odds to win the national title according to oddsmakers at BetNow.eu. Duke has the best odds at 13/2, while Villanova and Gonzaga are both at 8/1. Kansas comes in next at 9/1. A full list of odds can be found at our College Basketball Futures Page.
Kentucky has been a powerhouse for years under head coach John Calipari, who continually recruits elite talent and this year’s squad has no shortage. Potential starters on this year’s roster include returners P.J. Washington, Quade Green and Nick Richards. But in order to do that, they must hold off competition from a talented group of freshmen vying for starting roles. Five-star point guard Ashton Hagans is the top point guard entering college basketball this season and will draw plenty of attention for his play. Immanuel Quickley, Tyler Herro, Keldon Johnson and E.J. Montgomery add to a strong freshman class that will help propel Kentucky back to the forefront of the SEC and perhaps the entire landscape of college basketball. Despite all the freshmen, it will still be Calipari’s oldest team in three years.
Despite an extremely young roster last season, the Wildcats still managed to win 26 games and the SEC Tournament with victories over Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee. If all the cards fall into place and the incoming freshmen live up to their hype, we could be seeing Kentucky raising another banner this season.
