Neither team was on many people’s radar at the beginning of the season or even at the start of the NCAA Tournament, but the Huskies and Bulldogs have proven all naysayers wrong in reaching Monday’s championship game. Butler, last year’s NCAA Tournament runner-up, lost star Gordan Heyward to the NBA and was not thought of as a national contender. Connecticut, aside from Kemba Walker, was very young this season which led to the Huskies not being ranked back in November.
That matters very little at this point as Connecticut (31-9) and Butler (28-9) are the last two standing.
Oddsmakers and online sports book Bodog.com have made Connecticut a 3.5-point favorite, while the over-under in the contest has been set at 128.5.
Butler reached the championship game by besting Virginia Commonwealth by a count of 70-62 Saturday night, while Connecticut used a strong defensive effort to edge Kentucky 56-55.
Walker tallied 18 points, seven assists, and six rebounds to pace the Huskies in their semifinal win. Butler was led by junior guard Shelvin Mack, who had 24 points and six rebounds.
According to latest college basketball trends, Connecticut is 22-12 ATS in all games this season. The Huskies are 12-1 ATS in all neutral court games this season. Butler is 15-6 ATS when the total is 120 to 129.5 over the last 2 seasons. The Bulldogs are 10-0 ATS in all neutral court games this season.
