The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have a lot to prove to their naysayers. On the one hand, Notre Dame is 16-4 overall and 5-3 in the Big East Conference to earn their top-25 ranking. Yet what has hurt the Fighting Irish cause thus far this season is their inability to win on the road as they are 0-3 in true road contests during the 2010-11 campaign.
Another chance will be had for Notre Dame to end its road woes Monday night at 7:00PM EST, but it will not be easy by any stretch of the imagination. In front of the Fighting Irish lies a true test in 19-1 Pittsburgh, which is 13-0 on its home court and 7-0 in Big East play.
Oddsmakers and online sports book Sportsbook.com have made Pittsburgh 10.5 point favorites in the contest. The Panthers have won nine games in a row, the last two coming against Syracuse and DePaul. Notre Dame has won two straight games with wins over Cincinnati and Marquette on its home court.
Ashton Gibbs paces a fairly balanced Panthers scoring attack at 15.8 points per game, while teammate Brad Wanamaker puts in 12.7 per game. Ben Hansbrough leads the Fighting Irish at 16.4 ppg and Tim Abromaitis scores 14.8 ppg.
The latest trends show that Notre Dame is 2-1 against the spread versus Pittsburgh over the past three seasons.
