NCAA Predictions: Reasons why South Carolina could upset Auburn 2/17/18

Auburn vs. South Carolina Pick

Is there a good case to be made for host South Carolina today as underdogs when they take on 11th-ranked Auburn at 3:30PM ET?

According to oddsmakers at YouWager, Auburn is a 6.5-point favorite on the spread line. The total is set at 148.5 points. Auburn opened as a 6-point fave, while the over-under has dropped from 150.

Bet Today’s NCAA Action

As of Saturday morning, 77 percent of public bets are coming in on the visiting Tigers. Online wager info also shows 51 percent of bets being placed on the under.

Auburn comes in with not only a sparkling 23-3 straight up record, but it is 18-6 ATS as it has been beating oddsmakers all season long. South Carolina, meanwhile, is 13-13 straight up and 10-14-1 ATS. But the one advantage the Gamecocks do have is being at home, where they destroyed the Tigers 98-69 in a meeting last season. While Auburn is much better this year, the fact that it struggled in this environment can not be understated. South Carolina’s fans will be fired up for this one. Auburn has won six of the last 10 meetings straight up, while also going 6-4 ATS. The over has also gone 6-4.

The Tigers are one a two-game win streak and have won seven of eight. But three of their last four games have been at home, so the comfort of that atmosphere will be absent today. South Carolina has dropped six in a row and failed to cover five of them.

I tried to talk myself into playing South Carolina here, I really did. It worked a couple days ago when I tried to do the same for Wisconsin at home over Purdue and it worked. But it just seems these two squads are heading in completely opposition directions and the spread isn’t quite big enough to grab me. I’m taking Auburn to cover here.
