Spartans stun Crimson Tide
Norfolk State earned an 80-79 overtime victory Wednesday night at top-seeded Alabama in the first round of the NIT Tournament. The Spartans (22-13) received two free throws from Derrik Jamerson Jr. with 17 seconds left in OT to put them ahead for good. Norfolk State trailed 35-28 at halftime, but outscored the Crimson Tide 39-32 in the second half and 13-12 in the extra session. Jamerson Jr. paced the Spartans with 25 points off the bench on 8-of-14 shooting including 7-of-13 from 3-point distance plus 2-of-2 at the free throw line. He also pulled down eight rebounds. Nic Thomas contributed 15 points, four steals and three boards. Steven Whitley tallied 13 points, seven caroms, seven dimes and four steals. Jordan Butler added 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Prediction:
It’s difficult to trust any Pac-12 team as this big of a favorite, aside from maybe the red-hot Oregon Ducks with the way they are playing. But the fact of the matter is Colorado is pretty stingy defensively and the Spartans are a poor offensive team, not a good combination especially when adding in the fact the Buffaloes have been covering spreads on their home court. Norfolk State had a huge performance at Alabama, which got Crimson Tide head coach Avery Johnson fired, but I don’t see the same thing happening here. Give the points and take the Buffs.
