North Dakota Game Notes
North Dakota guard Matt Norman led his squad in scoring in the Fighting Hawks’ win over Incarnate Word on Monday, pouring in a team-high 14 points in 24 minutes off the bench. Norman hit 5-10 shots from the field including 3-7 from deep. He’s the second-leading returning scorer for North Dakota this season.
The Fighting Hawks’ leading returning scorer is forward Mitchell Sueker. Sueker averaged 9.9 points and 3.8 rebounds per game last year while shooting 39.4% from three and 80% from the free throw line. The 6’9” senior is a legit stretch four and should take more than the 3 shots he attempted against Incarnate Word on Monday.
Creighton Game Notes
Creighton is poised for a big year in 2022-2023. They return four of their top six leading scorers from last year and added South Dakota State transfer guard Baylor Scheierman. Scheierman is a 6’7” senior and was one of the best players in the Summit League last year. He averaged 16.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.3 steals for the Jackrabbits last season. What’s more, Scheierman shot extremely well, making 50.8% of his shots from the field while shooting a scorching 46.9% from three-point land. He could be in for a big game against one of his former rivals on Thursday.
The man in the middle for Creighton is 7’1” junior Ryan Kalkbrenner. Kalkbrenner averaged 13.1 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per game last year for the Bluejays while shooting an efficient 64.6% from the field. Kalkbrenner could have a sizable impact on the outcome of this game on Thursday.

North Dakota at Creighton CBB Prediction:
Creighton has a legitimate chance to win the Big East this season. They have guards and bigs that score and defend. Last year the Bluejays were 38th in the country in average scoring margin at +7.7 per game. North Dakota on the other hand was 293rd out of 347 Division I schools at -7.0. Playing at Creighton is notoriously difficult for good Big East teams, and it will likely be an issue for a relatively undermanned North Dakota squad. I’ll lay the points with the Bluejays in Omaha.
