Panthers topple Demon Deacons
Pittsburgh earned an 81-72 victory over Wake Forest Tuesday in the first round of the ACC Tournament to improve to 16-16 on the season. The Panthers outscored the Demon Deacons 41-31 in the second half after trailing by one at the break. Justin Champagnie paced Pitt as he poured in a career-high 31 points on 13-of-19 shooting including 3-of-7 from 3-point distance plus 2-of-3 at the free throw line. He also pulled down six rebounds. Trey McGowens tallied 14 points, four assists, three boards and two steals. Xavier Johnson accounted for 10 points, eight dimes, five rebounds and three steals. Audiese Toney registered 10 points, four caroms, four assists and four steals. Abdoul-Karim Couilibaly added 10 points and seven boards off the bench.
Wolfpack win regular season finale
North Carolina State cruised to an 84-64 victory over Wake Forest Friday night to wrap up the regular season 19-12 overall and 10-10 in conference action. The Wolfpack established a 44-31 halftime advantage on their way to the win. D.J. Funderburk led NC State with 19 points off the bench on 8-of-10 shooting plus 3-of-4 at the free throw line. He also recorded seven rebounds and three blocked shots. Braxton Beverly tallied 16 points and three steals as a reserve. Markell Johnson accounted for 13 points, 10 assists, five boards and four steals. C.J. Bryce had 11 points, six caroms and three assists. Danny Dixon recorded 10 points and two rebounds. Devon Daniels added 10 points, five boards and three assists.

The Panthers has a game under their wings in this tournament and while fatigue is always in the back of our heads, these are also college kids who bounce back pretty quickly. Pittsburgh only lost by a count of 77-73 less than two weeks ago at North Carolina State. While most people seem to be backing the Wolfpack, I’m going contrarian and taking the points with an underdog that gained a little confidence from yesterday’s win.
