Providence struggling ATS, visits Xavier
With one win over No. 23 Providence already to its credit this season, can No. 8 Xavier make it two tonight? Here’s what the trends say about this Big East meeting.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Xavier has been made an 8-point favorite against home against Providence. The over/under total odds are currently set at 147 points. These two meet tonight at 7PM ET on FOX Sports 1.
You don’t have to look too far for some good information on this game, as these two met back on Jan. 26 with Xavier (22-3, 10-3 Big East) picking up a 75-68 win at Providence (19-7, 7-6 Big East). Shooting was a big part of the win for Xavier, as it was 30 of 59 from the field while the Friars were 22 of 70 shooting. One concern would be the 11 more field-goal attempts for Providence, but part of that was due to 20 Xavier turnovers. The good shooting has continued for Xavier since as it is shooting 45 percent from the field in its last five. The poor shooting has also continued for the Friars, as they are shooting only 39 percent in their last five.
Since the Jan. 26 loss, Providence is just 2-3 with losses on the road to Marquette and DePaul and a 12-point home loss to Villanova. The Friars have failed to cover in four straight as well. Xavier is 4-1 since that win, but just 2-3 against the spread. The Musketeers have also failed to cover in four straight at home. However, Xavier is 13-8 against the spread following a win this season and it has been able to win and cover in its last two against Providence. With fewer turnovers at home, Xavier should be able to have the better offense and keep the Friars from staying too close.
