SMU loses key commit
DALLAS, TX (TheSpread) – SMU had the commitment of one of the top players in the 2014 recruiting class, but now that commitment is gone.
Point guard Emmanuel Mudiay has elected to play overseas this season as opposed to join SMU, whom he originally chose over the likes of Kansas and Kentucky. ESPN had the report, which is a big loss for SMU and coach Larry Brown.
“He’s the most special point guard I’ve ever seen at that age,” Brown told ESPN on Monday. “He plays the right way, and God has given him incredible gifts. We all know (the NBA is) a point guard’s league.”
SMU is coming off a 27-10 record last season with a 12-6 mark in the AAC. The Mustangs finished runner-up in the NIT Tournament.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, SMU has been given 33/1 odds to win the NCAA Tournament next season. Oddsmakers see Kentucky as the favorite with 9/2 odds while Duke has 10/1 odds.
