Syracuse Player Spotlight
ElijahHughes had 19 points (6-11 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 6-7 FT) to go along with nine rebounds and nine assists across 38 minutes in Saturday’s 71-57 victory over Niagra. All five of the Syracuse starters saw 31 minutes or more in what turned out to be a comfortable victory, and Hughes once again led the way among four starters in double figures. The junior recorded his best rebounding total of the year and matched his best assist total, though he also committed a season-high five turnovers in the contest. Fantasy owners will count on Hughes to keep up this all-around production in ACC play, which tips off for the Orange on Jan. 4 against Notre Dame.
Notre Dame Player Spotlight
John Mooney had 15 points (7-17 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 0-1 FT), 19 rebounds, three blocks, three steals and two assists across 34 minutes in Saturday’s 64-67 loss to Louisville. It was a season-high in rebounding for Mooney, who strengthened his grip on the nationwide rebounding lead by improving his average to 13.9 rpg. No other Notre Dame player managed more than five boards in the contest. The Irish may be 1-4 in conference play, but Mooney is on pace for one of the best individual campaigns in program history. He’s averaging 19.0 points and 15.7 boards over his last three contests.
