TCU vs. Texas Tech Big 12 Tournament 3/9/16 Picks & Predictions

Is TCU facing Texas Tech at wrong time?

With a Big Dance berth hanging in the balance, Texas Tech tackles in-state rival TCU this evening at 9:30 p.m. ET.

The Red Raiders are online sports book Bovada.lv’s 7-point favorites entering the Big 12 tournament’s opening-round nightcap. Third-year coach Tubby Smith clearly has his troops clicking on all cylinders at the right time, as they posted victories in six of the final eight regular-season affairs.

One more triumph should ensure Texas Tech’s first NCAA tourney appearance since the 2006-07 campaign. That means disposing of the Horned Frogs, who captured just two of 18 conference affairs. Despite considerable stat-stuffing from Chauncey Collins (11.8 points per game) and Malique Trent (11.5), Trent Johnson’s program wallows at the bottom of the league in field-goal percentage (40.7), scoring margin (minus-4.4 per contest) and rebounding margin (minus-2.7).

The Red Raiders also buried TCU on two occasions earlier in 2016. With the selection committee paying close attention to tonight’s proceedings, expect another trouncing.
