Tennessee loses Lopez
KNOXVILLE, TN (TheSpread) – Tennessee suffered a blow to its title hopes this week as it was announced that guard Brandon Lopez will miss the upcoming season with a torn ACL.
Lopez injured himself while playing basketball with teammates on Saturday. The 6-foot-1 senior was a walk-on player for the Vols, but had appeared in 31 games over the last three seasons.
Lopez had scored just five points in his career, but new coach Donnie Tyndall was looking at giving Lopez more playing time this year as he is the lone pure point guard on the Vols’ roster.
“Obviously this is a huge blow to our team, as Brandon had worked himself into a position where he was competing for a starting role,” Tyndall said in a statement.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Tennessee has been given 100/1 odds to win the NCAA Tournament next season. Oddsmakers see Kentucky as the favorite with 9/2 odds while Arizona now comes in with 9/1 odds.
