Texas Game Notes
The Longhorns’ leading scorer and assists leader is senior guard Marcus Carr. The 6’2” Minnesota transfer is averaging 17.8 points and 4.3 assists per game. He’s also shooting well from the field (47.3%) and from deep (44.6%). Carr and his fellow guard Tyrese Hunter will be key to the outcome of this matchup.
Texas’s most impactful big man is 6’8” senior Timmy Allen. Allen is scoring 9.8 points per game and grabbing a team-high 6 rebounds per game. He’s shooting 49.5% from the field on the campaign and has scored in double figures in three of his last four games.
Oklahoma Game Notes
Oklahoma’s offense revolves around senior guard Grant Sherfield. Sherfield is third in the Big 12 in scoring with 18 points per game and leads the Sooners in assists with 3.8 per game. Sherfield has been lighting it up both from the three-point line (56.5%) and the charity stripe (88.6%), and those two numbers are why he’s scoring so many points per game.
On the interior, the Sooners will likely require production from senior forward Tanner Groves. The 6’10” Spokane, Washington native is averaging 11.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game while shooting a scorching 55.4% from the field this season. Oklahoma will need his rebounding and scoring contributions if they’re going to cover this game.

Texas vs. Oklahoma CBB Prediction:
Texas will be without their head coach for this game. Longhorns head coach Chris Beard was arrested a few weeks ago on suspicion of domestic violence. He is currently suspended without pay and Texas associate head coach Rodney Terry has been serving as the head coach in Beard’s absence. Texas has gone 4-0 since Beard’s suspension, but they needed overtime to beat Rice and only beat a middling Stanford team by 10 during that span.
Oklahoma on the other hand is a battle-tested squad. The Sooners have wins over Nebraska, Seton Hall, Ole Miss, and Florida already this year. Oklahoma ranks 33rd out of 363 schools in adjusted efficiency margin according to Kenpom.com. The Sooners also rank 337th in adjusted tempo, which could be an advantage. Oklahoma’s slower pace could nullify some of the athletic advantages that Texas may have with some of their better players. In an ugly grinder of a game, I’ll take the Sooners at home and the points.
