San Diego State Aztecs Notes
Matt Bradley finished with 21 points (5-12 FG, 4-8 3Pt, 7-9 FT), six rebounds and two assists across 32 minutes during Saturday’s 72-71 win over Florida Atlantic. Bradley averaged just 6.0 ppg over SDSU’s previous three tournament games, including a 1-for-8 shooting effort in the Elite Eight against Creighton. As the team’s leading scorer in the regular season (12.7 ppg), Bradley bounced back in a huge way here, as he was the only Aztecs starter in double figures. He’ll need a repeat effort in Monday’s National Championship game against UConn if San Diego State hopes to bring back a title.
UConn Huskies Notes
Jordan Hawkins posted 13 points (3-8 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 4-5 FT), three rebounds and one block in 25 minutes during Saturday’s 72-59 victory over Miami (FL). Despite dealing with an illness the week leading up to the Final Four, Hawkins managed to start, though he did see a few less minutes than his season-long and NCAA Tournament averages. Through five NCAA Tournament games, the sophomore guard is averaging 16.4 ppg, as well as shooting 50 percent from distance. While UConn does seem unstoppable, the Huskies will now face arguably their toughest defensive matchup of the tourney when they play SDSU on Monday for a National Title.
