Cats No Stranger to NCAA Tournament
UVM will be making its fifth NCAA Tournament in the last eight seasons. Gonzaga is the only mid-major to have made more NCAA Tournament appearances than Vermont since 2016-17.
Vermont’s only trip out of the Round of 64 came in 2005 when the Cats last won three straight titles. The 13th-seeded Cats upset No. 4 Syracuse 60-57 (OT) in Worcester, Mass. TJ Sorrentine hit the iconic three pointer “from the parking lot” in overtime. The game also tipped off at 7 p.m. on a Friday night on CBS.
Filipowski’s Double-Double Not Enough
Kyle Filipowski recorded 28 points (13-20 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-3 FT), 14 rebounds, one assist and three steals over 34 minutes before fouling out of Thursday’s 74-69 loss to North Carolina State.
Filipowski was impressive on both ends of the court for the Blue Devils, but his efforts were not enough to lift Duke past NC State. Duke is likely to make the NCAA Tournament, and if that’s the case, Filipowski will be a pivotal player for the Blue Devils on both ends of the court. He ends the 2023-24 with averages of 17.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.6 blocks and 1.1 steals per game.
