Wildcats roll past Musketeers
Villanova secured an 85-75 home win over Xavier Friday night to improve to 14-4 overall and 5-0 in the Big East Conference. The Wildcats led 39-31 at halftime and continued to control the action after the break. Villanova shot 30-of-60 from the field, 15-of-34 on 3-point attempts and 10-of-16 at the free throw line. Phil Booth led the Wildcats with 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting including 5-of-9 from 3-point range plus 1-of-5 at the free throw line. Collin Gillespie registered 18 points plus four assists and two steals. Eric Paschall added 17 points, eight caroms and four dimes.
Bulldogs win second straight
Butler improved to 12-7 overall and 3-3 in conference action Saturday with an 80-71 home victory over St. John’s. Kamar Baldwin paced the Bulldogs with a game-high 30 points on 10-of-18 shooting including 2-of-6 from 3-point distance plus 8-of-10 at the charity stripe. He also grabbed eight rebounds. Jordan Tucker added 24 points plus six boards and two assists off the bench. Butler raced to a 39-27 halftime advantage and never looked back. The Bulldogs shot 28-of-61 from the floor, 11-of-25 from 3-point distance and 2-of-4 at the free throw line.
College Basketball Betting Trends
Villanova
The Wildcats are 39-19-1 ATS in their last 59 road games. Villanova is 37-17 ATS in its last 54 games overall.
Butler
The Bulldogs are 1-6 ATS in their last Tuesday games. Butler is 4-1 ATS in its last five Big East games.
Prediction:
The Wildcats have won a couple road games in Big East play, but the Bulldogs are better than either of the previous two opponents. Butler has a solid offense and while its defense isn’t anything to write home about, it’s still better than Villanova’s. The home-court advantage here is the difference for me in a game that should go down to the wire. Butler lost both meetings last season to the eventual national champions, but that was on the road and in a neutral setting at the Big East Tournament. Look for the Bulldogs to do much better today against a not nearly as good Villanova squad.
