Virginia lands Tennessee transfer
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (TheSpread) – The Virginia Cavaliers added some help for the future by picking up Tennessee transfer Darius Thompson.
Thompson elected to leave the Volunteers following the departure of coach Cuonzo Martin to California. He played in all 37 games for Tennessee last season, averaging 2.6 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.0 steals in his freshman season. Due to NCAA transfer rules, Thompson will sit out all of next season.
Virginia had a breakout season last year, winning the ACC regular season and tournament titles with a record of 30-7 overall and 16-2 in conference play. The Cavaliers reached the Sweet 16 under coach Tony Bennett. The team had just three seniors on the roster.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Virginia has 33/1 odds to win the NCAA Tournament in 2015. Oddsmakers see Kentucky as the favorite to win it all next season, with 5/1 odds. Duke is the next favorite at 10/1.
