Cavaliers stifle Black Bears
Virginia earned a 46-26 victory at home over Maine Wednesday night to improve to 7-0 overall and 4-0 at home. The Cavaliers led 24-14 at halftime and continued to pull away after the break. Mamadi Diakite paced Virginia with 15 points on 6-of-13 shooting including 1-of-2 from 3-point distance plus 2-of-2 at the free throw line. He also accounted for seven rebounds and two steals. Jay Huff added 13 points and five boards.
Boilermakers fall to Seminoles in OT
Purdue lost 63-60 to Florida State in overtime Saturday night in the championship game of the Emerald Coast Classic. The Boilermakers (4-3) outscored the Seminoles 34-31 in the second half, but were then outscored 5-2 in the extra session. Matt Haarms paced Purdue with 16 points on 6-of-6 shooting including 1-of-1 from 3-point distance plus 3-of-3 at the charity stripe. He also pulled down eight rebounds. Jahaad Proctor contributed 12 points, three boards and two assists. Eric Hunter Jr. added 10 points, four dimes, three rebounds and three steals.
College Basketball Betting Trends
Virginia
The Cavaliers are 6-1 ATS in their last seven Wednesday games. Virginia is 36-15 ATS in its last 51 road games.
Purdue
The Boilermakers are 12-5-1 ATS in their last 18 home games. Purdue is 36-16 ATS in its last 52 Wednesday games.
Prediction:
The Cavaliers might have the best defense in the nation (and it’s not particularly close right now), but they have not played the toughest of schedules and their adjusted offensive efficiency is a bit concerning. The Boilermakers also have a top 10 defense nationally and are the better team on the offensive end, although they too leave something to be desired. This is going to be a low-scoring game to the extreme as the over-under suggests. I’ll take the team at home that I trust a little bit more to find a basket or two in crunch time.
