Demon Deacons unable to hang with Hokies
Wake Forest suffered an 87-71 loss Saturday at Virginia Tech to drop to 8-9 overall and 1-4 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Demon Deacons trailed 42-32 at halftime and could not recover. Wake Forest shot 18-of-48 from the floor, 8-of-24 from 3-point distance and 27-of-38 at the free throw line. Brandon Childress paced the Demon Deacons as he was the lone scorer in double figures with 28 points on 7-of-12 shooting including 5-of-9 from 3-point distance plus 9-of-11 at the charity stripe. He also contributed two rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Cavs suffer first loss of season at Duke
Virginia was edged 72-70 at Duke Saturday to fall to 16-1 overall and 4-1 in the ACC. The Cavaliers trailed 37-32 at halftime and their rally fell short after the break. Virginia shot 28-of-53 from the field, 3-of-17 from 3-point distance and 11-of-17 from the free throw line in the defeat. De’Andre Hunter led the Cavs with 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting plus 2-of-4 at the free throw line. He also brought down four rebounds. Kyle Guy had 14 points and six boards, while Ty Jerome contributed 14 points along with four rebounds and four dimes. Braxton Key added 11 points, six rebounds and two assists off the bench.

I spoke about recency bias in another game writeup and I think it applies here to. The Cavs are big favorites, but I think they would be even bigger faves if they weren’t coming off a loss. I don’t see Wake Forest hanging in and Virginia is going to have plenty of focus wanting to rebound with a strong performance. Wake Forest ranks 121st nationally in offense and 209th in defense in terms of adjusted efficiency. Good luck against a Cavaliers team ranked third and second, respectively. Virginia is a national title contender and Saturday proved that. Look for a blowout win tonight.
