Musketeers get past Friars
Xavier earned a 64-58 home win Saturday night over Providence to improve to 16-8 overall and 5-6 in Big East Conference play. The Musketeers outscored the Friars 36-28 in the second half after trailing by two at the break. Tyrique Jones paced Xavier with 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting plus 2-of-6 at the free throw line. He also racked up 18 rebounds and four assists. Paul Scruggs accounted for 13 points, five dimes and four boards. Zach Freemantle tallied 11 points and three caroms. Kyky Tandy added 10 points in 25 minutes of action off the bench.
Bulldogs blown out by Golden Eagles
Butler suffered a 76-57 defeat Sunday afternoon at Marquette to drop to 18-6 overall and 6-5 in conference action. The Bulldogs were outscored 42-31 in the second half of the loss. Kamar Baldwin led Butler with 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting including 3-of-6 at the charity stripe. He also pulled down six rebounds. Bryce Nze added 14 points, five boards and two steals.
College Basketball Betting Trends
Xavier
The Musketeers are 1-5 ATS in their last six Wednesday games. The underdog is 4-9 ATS in the last 13 meetings.
Butler
The Bulldogs are 0-3-1 ATS in their last four home games. Butler is 1-6-1 ATS in its last eight games overall.
Prediction:
Butler has seemed to be one of the most difficult teams to predict this season and is now 3-5 straight up in its last eight games overall. But Xavier does represent the weakest opponent the Bulldogs have faced at home since the calendar turned to 2020. Butler is going to be salty after the poor performance at Marquette and I see it taking advantage of a Musketeers squad that is offensively deficient.
