AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) -Ben Wallace’s back spasms flared up, forcing the Cleveland forward to leave Saturday night’s game against Detroit.
Wallace, who returned to the lineup after missing two-plus games, intentionally fouled Detroit’s Richard Hamilton to stop the game early in the third quarter after appearing to hurt his back when Antonio McDyess blocked his shot.
The former Piston sat down, then was later helped to the locker room. He had six points, five rebounds and two blocks in his first game at The Palace since Chicago traded him last month to the Cavs.
Wallace walked gingerly to the bus after Detroit won 85-71 and nodded when asked if it was the same problem that had led to him being sidelined previously.
Cavs coach Mike Brown said he didn’t know how long, or if, Wallace would be out of the lineup.
“We just shut him down for a week, and it came back,” Brown said. “We’ll have to talk to our doctors and see what they say, but I don’t know what is going to happen.”
