INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -The Butler Bulldogs, one of the surprise teams in college basketball last season, will take on Florida State in the opening game of the Wooden Tradition at Conseco Fieldhouse on Dec. 15.
Purdue, which lost to Butler last year in the annual doubleheader named for former UCLA coach and Purdue player John Wooden, will play Louisville in the second game.
Butler, which was ranked in The Associated Press Top 25 for 16 consecutive weeks, lost to eventual champion Florida in the NCAA tourney round of 16. Todd Lickliter was the national coach of the year, but he left Butler for Iowa after the season and former assistant Brad Stevens succeeded him as Bulldogs coach.
Florida State will be in the Wooden Tradition for the first time.
Louisville will make its third appearance, the first since 2003. Purdue will be in it for the seventh time and will be seeking its first victory since it beat Louisville in 2002.
