SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -Curtis Dixon had 15 points to lead six players in double figures as Bluefield College defeated USC Upstate 93-77 on Saturday.
Bluefield (11-3), nationally ranked in NAIA, broke open a 28-all tie with a 14-2 run in the opening half that included four 3-pointers by four different players. After the Spartans (1-8) cut the lead to 42-37 with 1:37 left, Bluefield ended the half in fabulous fashion when Keenan Rainer hit a desparation heave from about 80 feet away that swished through the basket.
USC Upstate could not get closer than 5 points in the second half.
Dontae Gholston and James Chapman had 14 points each for Bluefield. Johnny Witherspoon and Coryon Ross had 12 points apiece, while Omar Reed had 10.
The Spartans, in their first season transitioning to full Division I status, were led by Luke Payne’s 20 points.
