ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) -Kevin Tiggs’ basket with 2 seconds remaining in overtime lifted East Tennessee State to an 89-87 victory over North Carolina-Asheville on Saturday.
Sean Smith gave UNC Asheville an 87-85 lead with a 3-pointer with 20 seconds left. Andrew Reed tied it with 5 seconds remaining, then stole the ball from K.J. Gartner with 3 seconds to play and set up Tiggs’ game-winning basket.
Travis Strong had 23 points, Tiggs scored 20 and Reed added 18 for defending Atlantic Sun champion ETSU (2-2), which bounced back from an overtime loss at Marshall by winning one in the extra session.
Garland had 21 points to lead UNC Asheville (5-1), which had the best start in school history spoiled. Vincent James scored 16 points, Bryan Smithson added 14, Kenny George scored 13 and Reid Augst and Sean Smith had 11 points apiece.
