BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) -Indiana freshman Eric Gordon bruised his lower back in a hard fall in the first half of the 15th-ranked Hoosiers’ 84-72 victory over Tennessee State on Monday night.
“He’ll be fine,” coach Kelvin Sampson said. “We took him for some precautionary X-rays, but he’ll be fine.”
Sampson said the 6-foot-4 Gordon would play Saturday against Kentucky
Gordon, who entered Monday night’s game second in the nation in scoring at 26.6 points, was knocked to the floor as he passed the ball to teammate D.J. White with just over 6 minutes remaining in the first half.
He remained in the game briefly, but was limping as play resumed and left shortly after that. Gordon, who had eight points, did not return to the sideline for the start of the second half.
“Even if he could have played, I wouldn’t have brought him back in,” Sampson said. “He’s been playing a lot of minutes. … We’ll get him back.”
