LOS ANGELES (AP) -Rodney Tention resigned as Loyola Marymount basketball coach Wednesday after three losing seasons.
The Lions finished 5-26 overall and eighth in the West Coast Conference with a 2-12 record this season.
Tention had a 30-61 record in his three seasons. The Lions went 12-18 his first season, finished second in the WCC at 8-6 and reached the conference tournament title game for the first time since 1989. It was their first winning league record since 1995-96.
Tention had a 13-19 record last season. Prior to arriving at LMU, Tention spent eight seasons as an assistant to Arizona coach Lute Olson.
Tention was 18-60 in three seasons as head coach at the College of Notre Dame in Belmont, Calif. Tention’s other assistant jobs were at South Florida and the College of Notre Dame.
