ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) -Chris Cooks scored 19 points and Missouri State wiped out a 22-point first-half deficit to beat Winthrop 73-69 Sunday.
The loss ends the Eagles’ 24-game home winning streak and avenged a 77-66 home loss to Winthrop last February in the ESPN Bracket Buster.
The Bears (4-1) trailed 43-21 with 2:37 left in the first half, but outscored the Eagles (3-2) 44-24 in the final 20 minutes.
Missouri State took a 61-60 lead with 4:32 left in the game. Taj McCullough’s three-point play with 4:06 on the clock put the Eagles back up by two with 4:06 left. But a three-point play by Cooks, who scored 14 points in the second half, put the Bears back on top for good.
Winthrop built its first-half lead by shooting 58 percent while holding the Bears to 31. All that changed in the second when Missouri State shot 54 percent compared with 21 percent for Winthrop.
The Bears improved from 3-of-10 from long range in the first half to 5-of-11 in their second-half surge. The Eagles made 6-of-9 behind the 3-point arc in the first half, but just 2-of-10 in the second.
Michael Jenkins led all scorers with 23 points for Winthrop and McCullough finished with 16.
