CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -North Carolina coach Roy Williams cut his scalp Friday when he tripped over a cord in his office and hit his head on a door.
Williams received five stitches at the university’s student health services office and was unable to attend an afternoon news conference or appear on ESPN Radio for a scheduled interview.
He was on his feet unaided immediately after the accident and showed for practice later in the afternoon wearing a USA Basketball cap, team spokesman Steve Kirschner said.
Williams was in good spirits and chuckled at his fall. He said his foot got tangled in a cord while he was stepping over a table. The office also contained about two dozen basketballs for him to autograph.
“The office is too small for all that dadgum memorabilia,” he said.
The top-ranked Tar Heels play North Carolina State on Saturday.
