CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -Bambale Osby scored inside with 21 seconds left to help Maryland stun top-ranked North Carolina 82-80 on Saturday, the Tar Heels’ first loss of the season.
James Gist had 22 points and 13 rebounds for the Terrapins (12-7, 2-2 Atlantic Coast Conference), who blew an 11-point lead midway through the second half but still held on in a back-and-forth finish to win here for the first time since 2003.
Tyler Hansbrough had 17 points and 14 rebounds for the Tar Heels (18-1, 3-1), who had several chances in the final seconds to answer Osby’s basket. But after Wayne Ellington missed a 3-pointer and a driving shot, North Carolina could only watch as Hansbrough’s last gasp 3-pointer bounced off the rim as the horn sounded.
Landon Milbourne finished with 14 points for Maryland while Greivis Vasquez had 12 points and 11 assists and Osby had 12 points and five rebounds.
North Carolina was shooting 46 percent on the season, but managed 38 percent from the field and was 7-for-23 from 3-point range on Saturday. Hansbrough, who was 6-for-15 from the field, went up among three defenders to tie it at 80 with 51 seconds left.
Southern California 72, No. 4 UCLA 63
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Davon Jefferson scored 25 points and O.J. Mayo added 16 as the Trojans ended UCLA’s nine-game winning streak.
Josh Shipp led the Bruins with 21 points and freshman Kevin Love had 18 points and 12 rebounds, his ninth double-double in 18 games.
UCLA (16-2, 4-1 Pac-10) trailed early in the second half, went on a 20-7 to take a 57-51 lead, then got outscored 21-6 over the final 6:18.
The Bruins went scoreless over the final 2 minutes.
The Trojans (11-6, 2-3), who lead the Pac-10 in field goal percentage defense, held the Bruins to 33.3 percent, their worst shooting of the season. USC shot 61 percent from the field.
No. 5 Georgetown 84, Notre Dame 65
WASHINGTON (AP) – Roy Hibbert had 21 points and five assists and led Georgetown’s defense that held Notre Dame to 32.8 percent shooting and almost 15 points below its season average.
DaJuan Summers added 17 points and a career-high 11 rebounds, and freshman Austin Freeman scored 16 points for the Hoyas (14-2, 4-1 Big East).
Luke Harangody of Notre Dame (13-4, 3-2) came in averaging 24.3 points and 11.8 rebounds in conference play, but he got into foul trouble trying to guard Hibbert and was limited to 13 points on 3-for-13 shooting.
No. 6 Tennessee 74, Ohio St. 69
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Tyler Smith made two free throws with 11 seconds left for Tennessee.
JaJuan Smith scored 15 points, Chris Lofton added 13 and Tyler Smith and Ramar Smith both had 12, helping the Vols (16-1) to only their second 16-1 start ever.
Before Evan Turner’s foul sent Tyler Smith to the line, Jon Diebler missed two 3-point shots that would have tied the game, with Tyler Smith rebounding the second. Jamar Butler and Kosta Koufos both missed shots after Smith’s foul shots.
The Buckeyes (12-6) led 46-39 on a jumper by Othello Hunter with 15:55 left, capping a 16-6 Ohio State run. But Ohio State went cold as Tennessee took off on a 27-6 run.
Turner had 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Buckeyes, while Hunter had 17 points and 14 rebounds.
It was the teams’ third meeting in just over a year. Ohio State eliminated Tennessee in the NCAA regional semifinals in San Antonio, 85-84, after beating the Vols 68-66 in Columbus in the regular season.
No. 7 Duke 93, No. 24 Clemson 80
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) – DeMarcus Nelson scored 24 points and Duke beat Clemson for the 22nd straight time in the series.
Kyle Singler added 17 points and keyed the game-breaking run for the Blue Devils (15-1, 3-0 Atlantic Coast Conference). They blew a 12-point first-half lead, regrouped and eventually ran away from the Tigers while improving to 54-4 against them at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Gerald Henderson had 16 points, Nolan Smith scored 13 and Jon Scheyer finished with 12 for Duke, which won its fifth straight.
Clemson held a 42-26 rebounding advantage, but the Tigers turned it over 21 times – 5.5 more than their average. Duke turned those miscues into 37 points and shot 53.4 percent.
K.C. Rivers scored 16 points to lead the Tigers (14-4, 2-2), who haven’t won at Cameron since 1995.

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) – Michael Beasley scored 21 points and Bill Walker added 19 for Kansas State.
The win gave the Wildcats (12-4, 2-0 Big 12) their first 2-0 start to a conference season in 15 years.
It was the second road loss this week for the Aggies (15-3, 1-2), who made only two of their first 15 shots in the second half and dropped to 0-3 in true road games.
Walker and Beasley, Kansas State’s standout freshmen, both played most of the second half with three fouls but led the getaway run as the Wildcats shot 52 percent against a defense that had been allowing opponents only 37 percent from the field.
Josh Carter had 13 points for the Aggies.
Cincinnati 62, No. 15 Pittsburgh 59
CINCINNATI (AP) – Adam Hrycaniuk had two tip-ins during a 13-point run in the second half to help Cincinnati pull off its second Big East upset in eight days.
One week after the Bearcats (9-9, 4-2) beat Villanova on a last-minute shot, they held on for another eye-opening win. Cincinnati won only two Big East games last season, when it finished dead last.
Pittsburgh (15-3, 3-2) fell way behind after another injury further sapped its lineup. Forward Keith Benjamin jammed and cut his right hand late in the first half, and had trouble shooting when he returned wearing a wrap.
The Panthers were already down two starters to injury.
With a chance to tie in the closing seconds, Benjamin took a 3 that was blocked by Rashad Bishop. He got the ball back and took another 3-point shot that was well short at the buzzer.
Deonta Vaughn led Cincinnati with 14 points, including a fastbreak layup and three free throws in the final 1:18. Hrycaniuk added 12 points and seven rebounds.
Sam Young led Pittsburgh with 24 points and nine rebounds.
No. 16 Vanderbilt 92, LSU 76
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Alex Gordon and Shan Foster both scored 18 points and Vanderbilt snapped a two-game losing streak.
The Commodores, coming off losses to Kentucky and No. 6 Tennessee, bounced back by going 9-for-19 from 3-point range and shooting 49.2 percent overall from the field.
Foster made only one of 11 3-point attempts Thursday at Tennessee. He hit four of his first five shots from long distance Saturday. Gordon also made four 3s.
Ross Neltner added 16 points for the Commodores (17-2, 2-2 Southeastern Conference).
Marcus Thornton had 27 points for the Tigers (7-11, 0-4) and Anthony Randolph added 14 points and 19 rebounds.
Auburn 80, No. 18 Mississippi 77
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) – Frank Tolbert scored 29 points and DeWayne Reed had 21, both career highs, and Auburn kept Mississippi from matching the best start in school history.
Quantez Robertson’s 3-pointer from the right corner broke a 70-all tie with 1 minute left for the Tigers (11-5, 2-2 Southeastern Conference).
Eniel Polynice of Mississippi (15-2, 2-2) then missed a 3 at the other end. Tolbert made four straight free throws and Auburn went 7-of-10 from the line over the final 39 seconds to keep Ole Miss from tying after twice pulling within three points.
Ole Miss was trying to match its 16-1 start in the 1925-26 season. The Rebels’ first four league games have been decided by a total of 10 points.
Tolbert was 9-of-11 from the field and 9-of-12 from the line.
Freshman Chris Warren led Mississippi with 25 points, including going 7-of-14 on 3-pointers.
No. 25 Villanova 81; Syracuse 71
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) – Scottie Reynolds scored 25 points and Corey Fisher added 15 for Villanova, which pulled away in the closing minutes.
Facing its first ranked opponent of the season, Syracuse (13-6, 3-3 Big East), with only eight scholarship players available, got into serious foul trouble.
The Wildcats (13-3, 3-2) began to assert control once the Orange’s leading scorer, Donte Greene, was called for his fourth foul with 17:04 left and center Arinze Onuaku received his fourth at 12:33.
Jonny Flynn led Syracuse with 23 points, while Greene had 12 points, seven below his average, in 23 minutes.
