HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) -Derrick Rose scored 23 points, including 11 in a 5-minute span of the second half, to help No. 2 Memphis pull away to a 76-67 victory over Southern Mississippi on Saturday.
The Tigers (28-1, 14-0) clinched their third consecutive Conference USA regular-season title with their 37th straight league win.
It was the second straight win for Memphis since its 66-62 loss to Tennessee last weekend cost the Tigers the No. 1 ranking with their first loss of the season.
Chris Douglas-Roberts scored 22 points for Memphis.
Jeremy Wise led Southern Miss (15-13, 7-7) with 26 points.
No. 3 North Carolina 90, Boston College 80
BOSTON (AP) – Tyler Hansbrough scored 25 points and North Carolina overcame 46 points from Tyrese Rice and an 18-point second-half deficit.
Wayne Ellington had 18 of his 20 points in the second half for the Tar Heels (27-2, 12-2 Atlantic Coast Conference), who won their sixth straight.
Rice surpassed his career highs of 32 points and six 3-pointers by halftime, making 8-of-9 from beyond the arc in the opening 20 minutes. He started the second half with a steal and fast-break layup to give him 36 points, and then he hit the next basket to make it 58-40.
But after Corey Raji hit a 3-pointer to give BC (13-14, 4-10) a 61-44 lead, the Tar Heels scored 18 straight points – getting three 3-pointers from Danny Green.
Texas Tech 83, No. 5 Texas 80
LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) – Alan Voskuil scored 18 points, including six straight free throws down the stretch, for Texas Tech.
Martin Zeno scored 15 points for the Red Raiders (15-13, 7-7 Big 12), who made 34 free throws in the game including hitting its last 10 to stave off Texas’ comeback.
Texas Tech fans stormed the court after the win, Pat Knight’s and the Red Raiders’ second over a Top 25 team since he succeeded his father as coach in early February.
D.J. Augustine scored 30 points for the Longhorns (24-5, 11-3), who had an eight-game winning streak snapped.
Texas Tech pulled ahead late in the first half and never trailed again. The Red Raiders went up 56-43 with just over 11 minutes remaining.
Three-pointers by A.J. Abrams and Justin Mason and three baskets by Augustine got Texas within 81-80 with 11.6 seconds left.
Zeno fouled Augustine before he could attempt a shot and he missed the front end of a 1-and-1. Texas got the rebound and J.D. Lewis took the final shot from 3-point range but it hit off the rim.
No. 6 Kansas 88, Kansas State 74
LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) – Brandon Rush scored 21 points and Kansas took advantage of Michael Beasley’s early foul trouble to build a big lead and cruise past Kansas State.
Sherron Collins had 18 points for the Jayhawks (26-3, 11-3 Big 12), who avenged an earlier loss at Kansas State (18-10, 8-6) and jumped into a first-place tie in the Big 12 with No. 5 Texas, which lost earlier Saturday at Texas Tech.
Beasley, the super freshman who’s become a top contender for national player of the year, had two points and two fouls in the opening minutes but wound up with 39 points and 11 rebounds. His 25th double-double extended an NCAA freshman record and tied the Big 12 mark.
No. 7 Duke 87, North Carolina St. 86
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – DeMarcus Nelson’s two free throws with 1:01 remaining gave Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski his 800th career victory.
Nelson and Jon Scheyer both scored 19 points for the Blue Devils (25-3, 12-2 Atlantic Coast Conference), who used a game-closing 14-5 run to take their first – and only – lead of the half and snap a two-game road losing streak.
Ben McCauley scored 19 points for N.C. State (15-14, 4-11). His free throw with 1:11 remaining put the Wolfpack up 86-85. He fouled Nelson 10 seconds later, and the Duke captain knocked down both free throws.
No. 8 Stanford 60, No. 22 Washington St. 53
STANFORD, Calif. (AP) – Brook Lopez scored 19 of his 25 points after halftime and pulled down six rebounds to help Stanford maintain its Pac-10 title hopes.
The 7-foot sophomore was 11-for-16 from the field and had four blocks. He dunked on a putback with 2:52 to play to give the Cardinal (24-4, 13-3) the lead for good and converted two free throws at 1:39.
Stanford’s sixth win in seven games sets up a showdown with first-place and fourth-ranked UCLA in Westwood on Thursday night with the conference championship at stake.
Derrick Low scored all 14 of his points in the first half, for Washington State (22-7, 10-7), which had won five of six since a three-game losing streak.
No. 9 Xavier 66, George Washington 56
CINCINNATI (AP) – C.J. Anderson scored 15 points and Xavier wasted an 18-point lead before rallying for its 11th straight victory over George Washington.
Xavier (25-4, 13-1) struggled in its first game since clinching the Atlantic 10 regular season title, but kept the winning streak going by showing its poise in the closing minutes – one of the Musketeers’ trademarks this season.
George Washington (9-15, 5-9) brought a three-game winning streak – its best of the season – and overcame an early 18-point deficit, but faded down the stretch. Rob Diggs scored 19 points.
No. 11 Georgetown 70, No. 21 Marquette 68, OT
MILWAUKEE (AP) – Roy Hibbert and Jonathan Wallace scored 20 points each to lift Georgetown to its fourth straight victory.
The Hoyas (24-4, 14-3 Big East) have won 11 of their last 13, with the losses coming at Louisville and Syracuse.
Wesley Matthews tied his career high with 22 points for Marquette (21-7, 11-6), which had a five-game winning streak snapped.
Trailing by three points early in the overtime, Wallace banked in a 3-pointer to tie the game. Wallace was fouled attempting a 3-pointer with 2.8 seconds remaining in regulation and he made all three free throws to tie the game.
No. 14 Butler 65, Detroit 31
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Pete Campbell had 24 points on a career-high eight 3-pointers for Butler.
Mike Green finished with 11 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists for the Bulldogs (27-3, 16-2 Horizon League), who won for the 11th time in 12 games. Their only loss during the stretch came Feb. 23 against No. 20 Drake.
Chris Hayes had nine points and six rebounds for the Titans (7-22, 3-15), who lost their fourth straight.
No. 15 Connecticut 79, West Virginia 71
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) – A.J. Price scored 24 points and Connecticut held on for its 12th win in 13 games.
Jeff Adrien had 17 points and 10 rebounds – his 16th double-double of the season – for Connecticut (23-6, 12-4), while Price hit five 3-pointers.
Joe Alexander had a career-high 32 points for West Virginia (20-9, 9-7), which trailed by 17 points in the second half and got as close as three.
No. 16 Purdue 68, Northwestern 43
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) – Freshman Robbie Hummel scored 15 points and Purdue moved into a tie with Wisconsin for first place in the Big Ten.
Nemanja Calasan scored 11 points and Chris Kramer had six steals, all in the first half, for the Boilermakers (23-6, 14-2). Purdue celebrated Senior Day with a victory that gave it a perfect conference record at home and moved it into the first-place tie with the 10th-ranked Badgers, who were idle.
Ivan Peljusic had 13 points for Northwestern (8-19, 1-15), while Kevin Coble added 10.
Arkansas 78, No. 18 Vanderbilt 73
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) – Sonny Weems scored 20 points, and Arkansas held off Vanderbilt, which called a timeout it didn’t have in the final seconds.
Vanderbilt had pulled within 74-73 on Jermaine Beal’s two free throws with 7.3 seconds remaining. Forward Ross Neltner then called a timeout, but the Commodores had none remaining and were assessed a technical foul. Weems made two free throws, then added two more on the ensuing possession for the Razorbacks (19-9, 8-6).
The Commodores (24-5, 9-5 Southeastern Conference) had won seven straight, including Tuesday night’s win over No. 1 Tennessee.
Shan Foster scored 22 points to become Vandy’s career scoring leader.
No. 20 Drake 73, Wichita St. 63
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Klayton Korver scored 19 points and Adam Emmenecker and Leonard Houston added 14 each as Drake closed its best regular season in 39 years.
The Bulldogs reached the 25-win mark for the first time since 1969, when they went to the Final Four.
Wichita State gave Drake (25-4, 15-3 Missouri Valley) a brief scare late, cutting a 14-point deficit to 63-58. But Emmenecker converted a three-point play and, after Wichita State was called for offensive goaltending, Korver drilled a 3-pointer to put Drake ahead 69-58 with 1:56 left.
PJ Couisnard had 20 points for Wichita State (11-19, 4-14), which lost for the fifth time in six games.
Bowling Green 89, No. 23 Kent St. 83
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (AP) – Brian Moten scored 24 points and had six of Bowling Green’s 11 3-pointers as the Falcons beat Kent State in its first game as a ranked team.
The Golden Flashes (23-6, 11-3 Mid-American Conference) moved into The Associated Press’ Top 25 on Monday for the first time in school history.
Moten, who was 6-of-9 from 3-point range, had two late layups against the Golden Flashes’ pressure.
Freshman Joe Jakubowski had 21 points and 12 assists for the Falcons (13-14, 7-7).
Mike Scott had 23 points and nine rebounds for Kent State.
No. 24 Gonzaga 88, No. 25 Saint Mary’s 76
SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) – Jeremy Pargo scored all 18 of his points in the second half and Gonzaga beat Saint Mary’s to break a tie for first place in the West Coast Conference.
Gonzaga avenged its only league loss this season and also won the first matchup between two ranked WCC teams in the league’s 55-year history.
Matt Bouldin led Gonzaga (23-6, 12-1 WCC) with 21 points as the Bulldogs won for the 13th time in the past 16 games. The losses were to No. 1 Tennessee, No. 2 Memphis and Saint Mary’s.
Daimon Simpson led Saint Mary’s (24-5, 11-2) with 25 points, while Patrick Mills added 20.
