ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -Sophomore forward Kendric Price is leaving Michigan’s basketball program, but plans to remain enrolled in school on scholarship for 2007-08.
“After meeting with Kendric over the past few days, we have mutually decided that he will leave the Michigan basketball program,” first-year coach John Beilein said in a statement Thursday night. “Kendric is a talented young man and we wish him nothing but success in the future.”
The 6-foot-7 Price played in eight games last season for the Wolverines, averaging 1.1 points and 0.9 rebounds as a redshirt freshman. The Boston native was recruited to Michigan by coach Tommy Amaker, who was fired after last season and replaced by Beilein.
“After much thought throughout the fall and over the last few weeks, I feel that I need to step away,” Price said in a statement released by the school. “I am thankful for the opportunity that was given to me here at Michigan, but I am going to take some time to concentrate on my academic career and decide if I want to further pursue my playing career.”
