INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -Matt Howard had 22 points and nine rebounds, and No. 14 Butler beat Wisconsin-Green Bay 74-65 on Thursday night for its seventh straight win.
Mike Green scored 18 points, A.J. Graves added 13 and Willie Veasley had seven points and a career-high 11 rebounds for the Bulldogs (15-1, 4-1 Horizon League), who tied the 2002-03 team for the best start in school history.
Terry Evans led Green Bay (9-6, 3-2) with 12 points and 13 rebounds while Mike Schachtner added 11 points.
The Bulldogs made just three 3-pointers, but outrebounded the Phoenix 38-30 and outscored them 29-10 from the free throw line.
No. 21 Wisconsin 70, Illinois 60
MADISON, Wis. (AP) – Trevon Hughes scored 22 points and Brian Butch added 16 as Wisconsin gave the Illini their first four-game losing streak under coach Bruce Weber.
Illinois (8-8, 0-3 Big Ten) managed to hang around for much of the game by grabbing 13 offensive rebounds while limiting Wisconsin (13-2, 3-0) to just four and shooting 6-for-10 from behind the 3-point line, well above the 28 percent they were shooting entering the game.
The Badgers were finally able to take charge midway through the second half. Consecutive 3-pointers by Jason Bohannon and Hughes sparked a 16-5 run over the next five minutes that put Wisconsin up 60-46.
Calvin Brock and Trent Meacham both had 14 points for Illinois.
No. 23 Stanford 66, Oregon St. 46
CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Lawrence Hill had 13 points and Brook Lopez had 12 points and nine rebounds to lead No. 23 Stanford.
Anthony Goods added 12 points for the Cardinal (13-2, 2-1 Pac-10), who have beaten the Beavers in 16 of the last 17 meetings.
Freshman Omari Johnson had 11 points and eight rebounds but was just 4-of-14 from the field for the Beavers (6-9, 0-3), who had a season-low point total and shot 30.4 percent. The loss was the fifth straight for the Beavers.
The Cardinal opened the game on a 15-2 run and was ahead 39-20 at halftime.
