LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) -Darrell Arthur had 17 points and fourth-ranked Kansas overwhelmed Northern Arizona in the first half for an 87-46 victory Wednesday night in the Jayhawks’ 600th win in the 52-year history of Allen Fieldhouse.
Kansas poured it on from the start, scoring the first 12 points and building it to a 29-4 lead with 7 1/2 minutes left. The Jayhawks shot 61 percent and held Northern Arizona without a double-figures scorer, getting an easy victory before facing Arizona on Sunday in what should be their first real test of the season.
Darnell Jackson had 13 points and Brandon Rush scored six in his second game back from knee surgery for Kansas, 4-0 for the first time since 2004-05.
The Lumberjacks didn’t score until Zarko Comagic hit a layup at 13:22 and barely cracked double figures for the half, shooting 4-for-24 to trail 44-10.
Comagic, Cameron Jones and Josh Wilson led Northern Arizona (3-2) with eight points each.
No. 5 Georgetown 57, Ball State 48
MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) – Roy Hibbert scored 16 points and had seven rebounds, and Georgetown made seven 3-pointers in a win over outmanned Ball State.
The Cardinals (0-3) were led by Peyton Stovall with 16 points.
Ball State, playing with only seven scholarship players, had nobody taller than 6-foot-4 and announced before the game that Anthony Newell, their top scorer, would miss six to eight weeks due to a left foot injury.
Georgetown relied on its superior size, depth and talent, and used a 22-7 run over an eight-minute stretch in the first half to build a 31-18 halftime lead. DaJuan Summers and Jessie Sapp each scored 11 points for Georgetown.
M 77, Washington 63
M held Washington without a field goal for a key 5-minute stretch in the NIT Season Tip-Off semifinals.
Joseph Jones added 17 points for the Aggies (5-0), who will play the winner of Syracuse and Ohio State on Friday night in the championship game at Madison Square Garden.
Jon Brockman had 21 points and 15 rebounds to lead Washington (3-1).
Aggies freshman DeAndre Jordan continued his stellar play. He came into the game having made 16 straight field goals to set a school and Big 12 record. Jordan made his first attempt, but missed a follow to end his streak at 17 straight. Jordan finished with eight points and 10 rebounds.
