EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -Drew Neitzel and Kalin Lucas each scored 18 points and No. 10 Michigan State beat Michigan 77-62 Sunday to match its best 20-game record in school history.
The Spartans (18-2, 6-1 Big Ten) equaled the mark the 2000-01 team had at this point en route to their third straight trip to the Final Four and fourth Big Ten title in a row.
The Wolverines (5-15, 1-7) have their worst 20-game mark since 1981-82.
Michigan didn’t have a double-digit scorer until there was 5:16 left and Manny Harris made two free throws and finished with 11 points. Anthony Wright also scored 11.
Raymar Morgan scored 13 points for the Spartans, who opened with an 8-0 run and started the second half with a 10-1 burst, putting them ahead 45-28. They coasted to the win in their only scheduled game against Michigan.
Michigan State improved to 12-0 at home. Its lone losses were against No. 8 UCLA and Iowa.
If the Spartans beat Illinois on Wednesday night at home, they will be 19-2 for the first time in program history.
Florida 86, No. 14 Vanderbilt 64
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) – Walter Hodge scored a career-high 19 points, Nick Calathes added 15 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds, and Florida used a huge first-half run to beat Vandy.
The Gators put together a 20-0 spurt that helped them build a 34-6 lead, then cruised to their 13th victory in 15 games against the Commodores, including seven straight in Gainesville.
Florida (18-3, 5-1 SEC) played one of its best halves of the season, pressing Vandy into early turnovers, working to get open shots and playing stingy defense.
Shan Foster and A.J. Ogilvy, who entered the game averaging nearly 39 points, combined for just three in the first half and finished with 16. The Commodores (17-3, 2-3) looked nothing like the team that started the season 17-0.
Dan Werner had 14 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Speights finished with 12 points and eight boards, and Jai Lucas chipped in 11 points.
No. 23 Xavier 77, Massachusetts 65
AMHERST, Mass. (AP) – Drew Lavender scored 19 points to lead four players in double figures, and the Musketeers knocked off UMass to move atop the Atlantic 10.
Derrick Brown added 14 points for Xavier (17-4 overall, 5-1), which won for the ninth time in 10 games. C.J. Anderson added 13 points and Josh Duncan 10.
Etienne Brower led the Minutemen (13-6, 2-3) with 22 points.
After shooting just 37 percent in the opening half, the Musketeers picked up the pace early in the second, turning their transition game into easy shots, building on a 12-point halftime to go up 54-38 on C. J. Anderson’s spinning move in the lane with 13:12 to play.
Xavier hit seven of its first 11 shots from the floor in the second half.
