UC Irvine 87, Alaska-Fairbanks 53

 

IRVINE, Calif. (AP)-Patrick Sanders scored 11 of his 19 points in the first half to lead UC Irvine to an 87-53 victory over Alaska-Fairbanks on Saturday night.
Darren Fells added 17 points and five rebounds and Brett Lauer scored 12 points, all on 3-pointers, as the Anteaters (3-5) ended a four-game losing streak.
Irvine used a 17-0 run to open a 19-point lead with 9:07 left in the first half when Sanders made a pair of free throws to give Irvine a 31-12 lead.
Sanders gave the Anteaters a 20-point lead with 5:16 left in the half when he took a behind-the-back pass from Michael Hunter and dunked it to make the score 37-17.
Kevin Bland finished a coast-to-coast drive with a one-handed dunk to give Irvine a 32-point lead with 5:39 left in the game.
Mladen Begojevic scored 19 points and Mike Titus added 15 to lead Alaska-Fairbanks (3-4). The Nanooks shot just 34 percent (17-of-50) from the floor.
Irvine shot a season-best 58 percent (34-of-58).
