DETROIT (AP) – University of Detroit-Mercy basketball coach Perry Watson is taking an indefinite leave of absence for medical reasons.
Associate coach Kevin Mondro will serve as head coach, the school announced Monday.
Watson, entering his 15th season as Titans’ coach, has had 10 winning seasons. His 258-185 career record makes him the second-winningest coach in Titan history behind Bob Calihan.
Watson led teams to the NCAA Tournament in 1998 and 1999, and to the NIT in 2001 and 2002.
The Titans (4-10, 0-4) will host Cleveland State on Thursday night.
