CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -Tyler Hansbrough scored 27 points and showed no ill effects from a weekend concussion to help No. 1 North Carolina beat Nicholls State 88-78 on Wednesday night.
Wayne Ellington added 20 points for the Tar Heels (10-0), who played at home for the first time in a month after six straight games away from the Smith Center.
Hansbrough, a junior All-American, was considered probable for the game following the concussion suffered in the second half of Sunday’s 93-71 win at Rutgers.
But Hansbrough played with his typical intensity against Nicholls State, going 8-for-13 from the field and grabbing 11 rebounds.
Ryan Bathie scored 17 points to lead the Colonels (4-8).
No. 2 Memphis 79, Cincinnati 69
CINCINNATI (AP) – Freshman guard Derrick Rose scored a career-high 26 points for Memphis, which improved to 9-0 for the first time since 1985-86, when the Tigers won their first 20 games, a school record.
Deonta Vaughn scored 20 points for the Bearcats (4-6), who are off to their worst start in 22 years.
Memphis got a lot of open shots on the perimeter early and took advantage, making seven of its first 12. The Tigers pulled ahead 26-14 and seemed to be ready to take control. Instead, they eased up, lost most of their lead and had to sweat it out.
Vaughn’s 3-pointer cut it to 68-62 with 3:50 to go. Rose hit a 3-pointer from the right wing that made it 73-64 with 1:52 to go.
No. 9 Michigan St. 85, San Jose St. 45
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) – Raymar Morgan and Durrell Summers both scored 16 points and Drew Neitzel added 14 for Michigan State.
Morgan was 6-for-10 from the field and Neitzel was 6-for-9 for Michigan State (10-1) in the matchup of Spartans.
Center Goran Suton finished with 11 points, seven rebounds, four blocked shots and four steals for Michigan State, which plays No. 4 Texas in Auburn Hills on Saturday.
Travis Walton added 10 assists and four steals as Michigan State had a 26-4 edge in assists.
DeShawn Wright led San Jose State (3-5) with 17 points.
No. 12 Tennessee 86, UNC-Asheville 73
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Chris Lofton scored 24 points and became Tennessee’s all-time 3-point shooter.
J.P. Prince added 13 points and seven assists for Tennessee (10-1), which played its only December home game. The Volunteers have won 23 consecutive games at Thompson-Boling Arena.
K.J. Garland had 22 points and Bryan Smithson added 21 for the Bulldogs (8-3).
Lofton passed Allan Houston’s record of 346 3-pointers 8 minutes into the first half. He has 349 3s, 18 short of passing Arkansas’ Pat Bradley for the all-time SEC mark.

It was the third straight victory for the Aggies (10-1) and their most lopsided of the season.
Jordan, who leads the nation in field goal percentage, missed only the last of his eight shots. He is 46-of-58 over his first 11 games. He hasn’t been nearly as good at the free throw line, however,and he missed all three free throws he took Wednesday and is just 12-of-43 overall.
Jon Goode had 13 points for the Titans (4-7), who lost their fifth straight.
No. 16 Butler 83, Bradley 64
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – A.J. Graves scored 21 points and freshman Mike Green had 17 points and nine rebounds for Butler.
Reserve swingman Willie Veasley ignited the one run Butler (10-1) needed – a 17-2 spurt over the final 4:33 of the first half that gave the Bulldogs a 34-19 lead. Freshman Matt Howard had 14 points and six rebounds, while Veasley scored a season-high 12.
Daniel Ruffin and Tyrone Cole-Scott both had 11 points for Bradley (7-4), which has not beaten a ranked nonconference opponent on the road since 1958.
No. 19 Arizona 52, UNLV 49
LAS VEGAS (AP) – Jordan Hill had 16 points and 19 rebounds for Arizona, which rallied from an eight-point deficit in the second half.
The Wildcats (8-2) trailed 40-32 with 13:10 to play when Nic Wise and Jerryd Bayless connected on consecutive 3-pointers. The field goals broke a string of nine straight misses by the Wildcats, who shot 34 percent for the game.
Wise, who finished with nine points and six assists, gave the Wildcats a 49-48 lead with one free throw with 1:18 left. It was their first lead of the game and they never trailed again.
Wink Adams had 19 points for the Rebels (7-3), who scored four points over the game’s final five minutes.
No. 24 West Virginia 90, Radford 60
RADFORD, Va. (AP) – Darris Nichols and Alex Ruoff both scored 23 points to lead West Virginia.
Nichols, a native of Radford, was 7-for-10 from 3-point range as the Mountaineers (9-1) shot 51.4 percent from behind the arc. Da’Sean Butler added 14 points.
Amir Johnson had 16 points and 11 assists for the Highlanders (4-9), while Kenny Thomas scored 16 points and Joey Lynch-Flohr added 12.
The victory was No. 599 for first-year Mountaineers coach Bob Huggins. Only five other Division I coaches have more wins than Huggins, who got most of his at Cincinnati.
